Councillor Jonathan G Slater

Cllr Jonathan Slater was elected in May 2023 as one of the three Retford North Councillors, committed to effectively represent the views of all residents in the ward including Hallcroft and the North Road Estate, supporting local communities with the cost-of-living crisis, as well as giving a proper voice to our Council housing tenants.

Following his election he was appointed by the Leader of Bassetlaw Council to be the new Cabinet Member for Housing and Estates. Jonathan has previously been an elected Councillor and Cabinet Member for the Community Sector in the London Borough of Lewisham, where he oversaw the local community partnership in supporting residents who needed to be shielded from Covid-19. Prior to that he was a Board Member of a local tenants run Housing Association Phoenix Community Housing from 2016-2018 as well as a Housing scrutiny member, where he pushed for the successful implementation of licensing of private landlords.

Jonathan has lived and worked in Bassetlaw for over two years, where he works in a national strategic role for the Restart scheme which supports those into work those who lost their jobs because of the pandemic.

Jonathan has been happily married for the last 5 years. He originates from the City of Hull, where he is the Chair of Hull Community and Voluntary Services, as well as a Hull City fan.
